HIPAA Law Timelines and HIPAA Regulations Deadlines
 

HIPAA laws are every changing and it is important to keep up to date with the HIPAA Privacy Rule, HIPAA Security Rule and timelines of important dates relating to HIPAA Compliance. Following are the HIPAA timelines for achieving compliance with HIPAA Rules.

May 23, 2008 Standard Unique Health Identifier for Healthcare Providers for small health plan (less than 5 million dollars in annual revenues)
May 23, 2007 Standard Unique Health Identifier for Healthcare Providers for most covered entities
April 21, 2006 SECURITY - Compliance deadline (small health plans)
August 1, 2005 EMPLOYER IDENTIFIER STANDARD - Compliance deadline (small health plans)
May 23, 2005 Standard Unique Health Identifier for Healthcare Providers Application available @CMS
April 21, 2005 SECURITY - Compliance deadline (for all covered entities except small health plans)
July 30, 2004 EMPLOYER IDENTIFIER STANDARD - Compliance deadline (for all covered entities except small health plans)
April 14, 2004 PRIVACY - Compliance deadline (small health plans)
October 16, 2003 Transactions & Code Sets - Compliance deadline (all covered entities who filed for an extension and small health plans)
April 16, 2003 Transactions & Code Sets - deadline for starting software and systems testing
April 14, 2003 PRIVACY - Compliance deadline (for all covered entities except small health plans)
13-Feb-03 SECURITY FINAL RULE - date of publication
13-Feb-03 ADDENDUM to TRANSACTIONS & CODE SETS FINAL RULE -  date of publication
16-Oct-02 Transaction and Code Sets - deadline for compliance or request for one year extension
31-May-02 Employer Identifier Standard Final Rule Published
28-Dec-00 Privacy Final Rule Published
August  17, 2000 Transaction and Code Sets Final Rule Published
21-Aug-96 HIPAA becomes law
